Blood Orange’s Gorgeous Freetown Sound Short Film Now On YouTube

Last month, Blood Orange (aka Renaissance man Dev Hynes) released a short film to the soundtrack of three songs from his latest album Freetown Sound. When it was first released, it was available for only 24 hours before being firmly shut behind the TIDAL paywall. Thankfully, the full film has now been released on YouTube—watch above.

The three songs in the film, “With Him / Best To You / Better Numb,” play as Hynes dances, sings and plays music. The film flitters between black-and-white and full color as we move through outer-city suburban streets, the insides of houses and a stage with a large red curtain. There’s a featured appearance from Empress Of, who is fantastic (as always). The film ends with a gorgeous contemporary solo dance from Hynes. Overall, the film serves as an intimate visual interpretation of Freetown Sound.
