Watch the Wonderful First Trailer for The Big Sick

As it’s pretty much unanimously agreed upon to have been the biggest hit of Sundance, you should be looking forward to the The Big Sick. In case you weren’t excited already, here’s the film’s first trailer to help you along with that.

Inspired by the real-life romance between comedian Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley, Portlandia, Adventure Time) and writer Emily V. Gordon (Super You!, The Carmichael Show, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail) —and written by them, too— The Big Sick tells the story of the budding relationship’s near-demise paired with Emily’s sudden illness and subsequent medically induced coma.

Directed by Michael Showalter (Hello, My Name is Doris) and starring Nanjiani, Zoe Kazan, Ray Romano and Holly Hunter, the movie sold for $12 million after a heated bidding war at Sundance in January. For a taste of the real-life Kumail and Emily’s other work, you can check out of their credits listed above, as well as their excellent podcast about videogames and general nerdery, The Indoor Kids (which, back in 2012, we called “the most compelling videogame-themed podcast available”).

For more on the movie, check back with Paste when The Big Sick hits theaters on June 23 in select cities and on July 14 in its wide release.
