David Bowie’s impact on Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails—and vice versa—is long documented, and one of the most quietly fruitful artistic partnerships of the past 25 years.

On Wednesday at their first concert since 2014, Nine Inch Nails paid tribute to their late mentor with a spare, haunting reimagining of Bowie’s “I Can’t Give Everything Away,” from 2016’s Blackstar.

“A hero of all of ours,” Reznor said, introducing the song. “We were in the studio kind of messing around, and when that hit, we felt like we needed to do something with it…so we reworked a song of his that gave us some sort of closure. We didn’t release it. But we will play it now for you tonight.”

Nine Inch Nails is set to release a new EP, ADD VIOLENCE, on Friday. You can listen to the first single from the EP, “Less Than,” here, and the second, “This Isn’t the Place,” here.

You can also check out this exclusive recording of Bowie and Nine Inch Nails dueting on Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World,” from a concert in Mountainview, Calif., on Oct. 21, 1995.
