Trump Said that He Met with the President of the Virgin Islands (Trump Is the President of the Virgin Islands)

One of the fun parts of President Trump is that we’re learning more about civics than at any other point in the 21st century. Our schools don’t teach us how our democracy functions, so most of the populace has never been informed about the important minutiae that makes America tick. This is embodied in our president, as he is completely and utterly clueless about what his duties entail.

This isn’t really that big of a deal, but it is a stark reminder of how far we have fallen. Remember Vice President Dan Quayle? He once spelled potato with an “e” at the end of the word, and we all decided that was enough to ensure that he never became president. Now we have a president who doesn’t even know what his job is and where his jurisdiction lies, and far too many people just shrug their shoulders at this depressing fact of our modern life. I’ve written this a million times since November and I will continue to do so until America wakes up from this mindless coma: Donald Trump is not some alien anathema to America—he is a direct byproduct of our collective failure to safeguard our democracy.
