Ryan Reynolds and Mélanie Laurent Star in Netflix’s Most Expensive Film Yet, 6 Underground

Sporting a shiny, $150 million budget, director Michael Bay’s 6 Underground will instantly become Netflix’s most expensive blockbuster yet when it begins shooting in the next few months. The action film, which will star Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds and the just-announced Mélanie Laurent of Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, also stars Dave Franco, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona and Corey Hawkins.

As for what 6 Underground is actually ABOUT, the information is much more scant. Bay is apparently playing his cards very close to the chest on this one, as not even a plot synopsis has yet hit the internet. The best we have is from Empire, which claims that the film sees Reynolds as “the leader of a squad that battles evil, with a team comprising four men and two women.”

Alright … as far as generalizations go, that one is particularly vague, but there you go. The idea, and the script, hail from Deadpool writer-producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, which is probably a good sign—certainly a better sign than Michael Bay being personally involved in the film’s story, anyway. In particular, you can see why Netflix was keen to plunk down a wad of cash for a script from these two, given that Deadpool 2 is coming off a huge opening weekend that led the way to it becoming one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies in box office history. Presumably, Netflix wants a slice of that action.

Given that budget, you can be sure that once the marketing campaign does begin for 6 Underground, you’ll be hearing a whole lot more about it—even more than you did with Bright, if you can believe that. We’ll let you know once we get our first look at the film, or have a better idea of what the hell it’s actually about.
