Pink Floyd released Animals in 1977, but that wasn’t the album helping them sell out stadiums and arenas that same year. It was the massive, sustaining success of the double whammy that was The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) and Wish You Were Here (1975) that carried the rock band to legend status in the late 1970s. At this pivotal point in their discography, Roger Waters and co. embarked on a tour across North America and Europe that’s widely considered to be the most monumental of their career.

This concert was the first of a two-night stint at the Oakland Coliseum Arena in California and featured two sets plus an intermission, the longest show of the whole 1977 tour. These Paste vault recordings begin with about eight minutes remaining in the first set, as the band were nearing the end of “Pigs (Three Different Ones).” Following the intermission, they work their way into “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-5).” They then proceed to play the entirety of Wish You Were Here, followed by two songs from Dark Side Of The Moon, including “Money” as a 10-minute jam.
