Exclusive: Watch Gregory Alan Isakov’s New Live Video for “Southern Star”

Does Gregory Alan Isakov ever spend time indoors?

Listening to his latest album, last year’s expansive Evening Machines, you wouldn’t think so. Almost every song has some reference to nature, especially the sky. “The storm clouds are thirsty,” he sings on “Southern Star.” “I can see them bursting, watch them gathering light.”

When he’s not touring, you can usually find Isakov on his farm outside Boulder, Colo., tending lambs in the winter and gardens in the spring. He does, of course, retreat indoors to write and perform music, but his songs and shows never have a fluorescent feel to them. They’re dewy and dusky. “It doesn’t matter if it’s summer or winter, morning or afternoon, this music always feels like evening to me,” Isakov said in a press statement last year.

Isakov is sharing one such twilight performance today in the form of a live video for “Southern Star,” premiering below. Bryan Dos Reis directed the video, which was recorded live in Boston and features a full band.

Isakov is currently on tour, including a sold-out Red Rocks show. You can find all the dates here.

Again, you can watch the video for “Southern Star” below. Further down, hear Gregory Alan Isakov’s 2013 Daytrotter session.
