Conscious Alliance Holds Summer Concert Food Drives
The Conscious Alliance will be holding several large-scale food drive projects in conjunction with summer music festivals Wakarusa in Lawrence, Kan., 10,000 Lakes in Detroit Lakes, Mich., and the traveling Big Summer Classic, as well as certain Sound Tribe Sector 9 shows. Food donations will benefit local America’s Second Harvest Food Share Affiliates and impoverished Indian Reservations nationwide. The Conscious Alliance aims to feed the hungry through music, art and athletics. Herbie Hancock Joins Forces with John Mayer
Seminal jazz pianist Herbie Hancock has pieced together a new band, Headhunters ’05 (named for his classic album Headhunters), featuring John Mayer, Marcus Miller, Roy Hargrove and others. The group has announced tour dates beginning tonight in St. Louis, Mo., and culminating with a two-night stint at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn. The full Headhunters ’05 lineup includes Hancock (piano), Terri Lyne Carrington (drums), Hargrove (trumpet), Kenny Garrett (saxophone), Munyungo Jackson (percussion), Lionel Loueke (guitar), Mayer (guitar) and Miller (bass). Tribute Album to Raise Money for Late Singer/Songwriter's Children
Dar Williams, Catie Curtis, the Kennedys and others are in the studio recording a tribute album to musician Rachel Bissex (pictured above), who died in February after a two-year battle with breast cancer. The album, which will feature Bissex’s songs, is being recorded with donated funds for production and publicity, and all funds generated from the album’s sale will go to a scholarship fund for Bissex’s surviving children, Emma and Matt.
