Sony Freezes 93,000 Accounts To Protect From Breach

Sony just can't seem to get a break. After announcing that they would have to recall up to 1.6 million LCD TVs worldwide, reports are now saying that last night Sony has had to freeze 93,000 PlayStation Network accounts due to security breaches. The network was also breached in April with all of the users' personal information at risk. In a blog post, Sony's chief information security officer said that a massive set of false sign-in ID-password pairs were attempted.  read more

Just when you were starting to think the Facebook gaming trend was starting to die off, news like this reminds us that we are only on the cusp of its wave. Although Zynga has yet to confirm the project, the respectable Toy Story writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen let it out in an interview with IGN that they might be writing the script for a new Farmville movie, saying "We're in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Netflix Apologizes for Price Increase and Announces Qwikster

After the big debacle last month about Netflix's increasing pricing scheme, CEO Reed Hastings has announced in a blog post that video streaming and DVD-by-mail services will be split into two companies and rebranded. While the instant streaming service will still be accessed through the Netflix website, the DVD-by-mail service will now be known as Qwikster and be headed up by long-time head-of-operations, Andy Rendich. Qwikster will receive its own website and pricing scheme and will also come to include video game rentals for the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and PlayStation 3.  read more

Sony Hires Former Homeland Security Official to Head Information Security

According to Reuters, Sony has hired Philip Reitinger, the former director of the U.S. National Cyber Security Center (a division of the Department of Homeland Security) to head their new position of Chief Information Security Officer. The hiring move comes in the wake of this past April's hacker-induced PlayStation Network outage, which drew wide criticism towards Sony's lackluster network security practices and their handling of the break-in itself.  read more

Ryan Payton, ex-videogame magazine freelance journalist and the creative director behind the upcoming Halo 4, has left the project over creative differences, according to an interview with Kotaku.
