Darren Aronofsky developing paranormal Towers for TV
While the status of Darren Aronofsky's most recent throwdown-oriented projects The Wrestler and The Fighter remain in various degrees of production, the filmmaker is in the midst of developing a new drama entitled Riverview Towers. AMC hired Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream) for the psychological thriller, which focuses on a family that moves into an apartment complex with paranormal activity. We can only speculate how the plots will thicken. All Poltergeist, all the time? Like an apparition-riddled version of Funny Games? The pilot's being written by John J. McLaughlin--who was also responsible for Aronofsky's up-and-coming Black Swan. Thanks to... read more
Charlton Heston: 1923-2008
Late in the evening of April 5, the world lost one of its biggest actors and most well-known cultural icons when Charlton Heston died at his home in Beverly Hills at the age of 84. His family has declined to publicize the cause of death, but Heston was diagnosed with neurological symptoms consistent with Alzheimer’s disease and had undergone treatment for prostate cancer in 1999. Heston was known for his strong, squared-jawed portrayals of tough men in such iconic films as Soylent Green (1973), Planet of the Apes (1968) and Ben Hur (1959), the latter of which earned him an... read more
Billy Crudup joins cast of Mann's Public Enemies
Universal already confirmed Johnny Depp and Christian Bale as stars in director Michael Mann's upcoming flick, Public Enemies, adapted from journalist Bryan Burrough's nonfiction tome Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34. Now Billy Crudup has been added to the cast as FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, Variety reports. Depp is to play John Dillinger, while Bale steps into the big shoes of legendary FBI agent Melvin Purvis. Aside from the swoon-inducing trio of manliness listed above, Marion Cotillard will portray Dillinger’s lover, Billie Frechette—Cotillard's first role since the Academy Award-winning La Vie en... read more
Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright reteam at World's End
Ever since they teamed up for the delightfully scatterbrained BBC comedy Spaced, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg have forged one of those director-actor writing combos that just keeps on giving. Through the zombie-splattering Shaun of the Dead and the absurdist action overdrive of Hot Fuzz, the duo has combined a lightning wit and an encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture to make some of the best comedy of the past decade. Now, they're saddling up for a third feature-length ride. As first reported by The Guardian, Wright has just signed with Working Title Films to produce two films. The first will... read more

Bathing John Malkovich: the actor soaps up on Super Deluxe
Welcome to the first—and probably only—edition of PasteMagazine.com's newest feature, The Baconator! (Please don't sue us, Wendy's.) Harnessing the power of Kevin Bacon and his marvelous networking skills, each week—again, probably just this week—we'll find a handful of seemingly random movies and Baconize them! Of course, Kevin Bacon himself will never actually be involved in this—seriously, one-time-only—feature, nor will the "six degrees" scenario so often associated with him. Honestly, we just thought it was a funny name. (Please take mercy on us, esteemed followers of Dave Thomas.) Today, we're going to draw a connecting line between Scary Movie 4, Risky... read more
Daniel Day-Lewis April Fool's Joke
Ladies and gentlemen, if I say that this is crazy news, it's because the following news item was an April fools joke by Slashfilm that got us (and a lot of other film sites) hook, line and sinker: /Film reported [on April 1... hmmmm] that Daniel Day-Lewis had signed on to play the title role in director Peter Weir’s (Master and Commander, The Last Wave) an upcoming remake of Werner Herzog’s classic Fitzcarraldo. Herzog himself was to produce the film, which would've been enough to placate remake-phobes, and Mick Jagger, who was originally slated to star in the 1982... read more
Steve Martin and Diane Keaton to star in One Big Happy
Diane Keaton might have been a bit disappointed that she didn’t get stolen for the American Apparel ad campaign, but she has much greater things to look forward to now that Paramount Pictures has cast her and Steve Martin for One Big Happy. That’s right—the endearing suburbanite couple from the Father of the Bride films will be reunited in a comedy about overcoming (what else) familial difficulties. Although closely related to the core scheme of Father of the Bride I and II, one would hope that if Paramount paid six figures for it, then it would offer audiences something new.... read more

Brad Pitt, Paramount option Lost City of Z
Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, has a brand-new plan. Paramount Pictures, Plan B’s parent company, recently purchased a David Grann manuscript entitled Lost City of Z, the story of an ill-fated British explorer’s attempt to find an elusive, ancient city in the middle of the Amazon. Lost City of Z tells the tale of Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett, the real-life inspiration for Indiana Jones, who was sent to Brazil in 1925 to search for a legendary city Fawcett called “Z.” He went with his son, Jack, and his son’s best friend, Raleigh. After a final telegraph to Fawcett’s wife... read more

Whatever they’re paying Mos Def’s agent, it’s not enough. Alongside him, Adrien Brody will play label founder Leonard Chess, Cedric The Entertainer will portray session musician Willie Dixon, Eamonn Walker will play Howlin’ Wolf, and, as previously reported, Beyoncé Knowles will do her best Etta James. Knowles will also contribute four songs to the soundtrack, though there's no word on whether they’ll be... read more

The truth (about the X-Files movie sequel) is right here
Remember The X-Files? It was that show about aliens with the creepy-awesome theme music, where the two main characters had a crazy will-they-or-won't-they vibe that far surpassed the one that Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain had over on ABC. X-Philes will remember the last X-Files movie that came out in 1998, four years before the television version of the show actually ended. Now, a decade later, those crazy kids known as Mulder and Scully will reunite once again in a nursing home! Aliens with walkers! Fogies from outerspace! Only kidding. It hasn't been that long. The new movie has, of... read more
