Chip Taylor will release his first solo album in six years on July 18. A double CD entitled Unglorious Hallelujah / Red Red Rose and Other Songs of Love, Pain and Destruction, this new recording features the known singer-songwriter taking on a decisively political charge with its lead track “I Don’t Believe In That.” In preparation for this forthcoming album, Taylor has initiated a series of podcasts called the Church of the Train Wreck, a number of 15-20 minute shows dedicated to the artist’s personal thoughts on the worldly issues influencing his music. ... read more
R&B Crooner Van Hunt To Open For Mary J. Blige
Singer-songwriter Van Hunt will join Mary J. Blige on tour in June, opening a series of European and U.K. dates for the fellow R&B crooner. Sirius Satellite Radio has announced the debut of its innovative new music program, Blog Radio, premiering Monday May 29 on Left of Center, channel 26. Pop-rockers Edie Brickell & New Bohemians are set to release Stranger Things on July 25, almost 16 years after their last studio album, 1990's Ghost of a Dog. Although Brickell & co. have picked up a new member – keyboardist Carter Albrecht – fans can still expect the same folksy pop sound for which the band is known. Eugene Mirman Protests Himself
In support of (or in opposition to) his new album, En Garde Society!, comedian Eugene Mirman organized a fake protest against himself in Manhattan’s Union Square last week. Protesters followed Mirman down the street to a bar, chanting and holding signs that said “No Blood For Oil Unless It’s Eugene’s” and “God Made Adam and Eve – Not Eugene.” Mirman ordered a bicycle driver to run over his CDs, and an effigy hung from a tree. Grant McLennan died at home on Saturday. As a founding member of The Go-Betweens and a solo musician, McLennan was one of Australia’s most notable songwriters, In 1989 The Go-Betweens went on a ten-year break, and McLennan released four solo albums, including Watershed and Horsebreaker Star. McLennan and Robert Forster reformed The Go-Betweens in 2000. Their most recent studio album Oceans Apart met critical acclaim.
