TV on the Radio unveils next LP: Dear Science,
How exactly would you watch TV on the radio? Years from now, when they're wading through postapocalyptic ruins, future scientists will marvel at the forerunners that could beam visual images through an audio signal—a technology so revered that they named an awesome experimental rock act after it out of sheer reverence. Maybe, just maybe, the band with that scientifically improbable moniker will answer that question with its next LP, Dear Science, (comma included). TV on the Radio will be releasing this bad boy courtesy of Interscope Records in the U.S. on Sept. 23, and 4AD will handle distribution on Sept.... read more

Decemberists to get "mossy, evil" in studio
Colin Meloy of the Decemberists wants his band’s next album to sound like a swamp monster. Or, maybe he didn’t say that, exactly, just that he wanted the pending record to be “mossy” and “evil.” At first, these terms don’t seem to describe the Portland-based group any better than, say, “Indonesian” or “Ska,” but like a blanket of moss in a forest gully, their melodies are lush, and through some of the darker ballads like “Mariner’s Revenge Song,” have frequently spread into nefarious territory. Last Week on PasteMagazine.com: 7/14-7/18/08
I'm going to blame my lateness on this last week's update on The Dark Knight. That's fair, right? I think so, if only because a) it's awesome, b) it's breaking records and c) Heath Ledger's Joker was more terrifying than an Andy Dick mugshot. At any rate, one of this last week's highlights on PasteMagazine.com was our review of the movie (linked above, natch). But oh, there was so much more...... read more
Paste reports highlights from E3 2008

Kanye West, Wyclef, Pharrell to perform for Barack Obama
It's the worst-kept secret in politics these days that Barack Obama loves hip-hop. Whether he's name-checking Lil Wayne or getting that dirt off his shoulders, Obama has amassed an all-star cotérie of rappers willing to back the Democratic Party nominee. He even had Hova offering a voice of encouragement for voters in the Ohio primary, for cryin' out loud. The National can seem a little anemic in comparison to the C-E-O-of-the-R-O-C.... read more

Watchmen trailer released online
It seems only appropriate that no more than two weeks after Merriam-Webster added "fanboy" to its dictionary ("boy who is an enthusiastic devotee, such as of comics or movies," if you're scoring at home), the trailer for the most celebrated graphic novel in history, Watchmen, debuted online (as well as at showings of some little-known arthouse flick called The Dark Knight). ... read more
