1600 Penn Review: "So You Don't Want To Dance" (Episode 1.03)

1600 Penn Review: "So You Don't Want To Dance" (Episode 1.03)

“So You Don’t Want to Dance” isn’t 1600 Penn at the best it could be, as least I hope not, but it’s headed that way. The more these characters are fleshed out, the more intriguing the show becomes, even if Skip is still frustrating and one of the show’s main focal points. Like Skip, 1600 Penn is doing the best it can, but it still stumbles quite a lot in it’s approach to do so. read more

American Horror Story Review: "Continuum" (Episode 2.12)

American Horror Story Review: "Continuum" (Episode 2.12)

Oh, the mysteries of American Horror Story: Asylum. The penultimate episode of the FX drama time-jumped but still found itself mired in clichés. Now that he’s back at home, Kit suddenly sports an even more exaggerated Boston accent. He walks into his home sounding like he is auditioning to play a Kennedy in a Lifetime movie. Kit, Alma and Grace are living it up Big Love style—two wives, two babies, one husband—but Grace is obsessed with remembering her encounter with the aliens while Alma wants to forget the whole thing. Grace is the ax murderer, but it’s Alma who ends... read more

New Girl Review: "A Father's Love" (Episode 2.13)

New Girl Review: "A Father's Love" (Episode 2.13)

In the first season of New Girl, the show laid down the elements of who these characters are, their intricacies and quirks. We learned so much about who they are, but not why they are the way they are. But this second season, New Girl has started to unravel each character as explanations why they act they way they do. First we met Jess’ parents and Schmidt’s brother and we’ve heard hints about Cece’s mother and her traditions, but now it’s Nick’s turn. Nick has so much anger, lazy attitude and a downright dislike for anything breathing, so what could make such a man this way? With “A Father’s Love,” we get to see the father that helped make Nick the man he is today. read more

Ben and Kate Review: "Girl Problems" (Episode 1.12)

Ben and Kate Review: "Girl Problems" (Episode 1.12)

As great as it is to see the stories of Ben, Kate and BJ growing, it’s a shame that Tommy hasn’t changed much since the beginning of the series. Yes, he has a new girlfriend, but that doesn’t really show any growth to his character, which is a shame considering how much of a blank slate and how much opportunity there is there. Surely we’ll learn more about Tommy through this new relationship, as he hopefully splits off and has his own stories, much like BJ has done, but for right now, there’s not much more to Tommy than helping out in the Fox family adventures. read more
