Last night 35,000 fans took in the final day of Hangout in Gulf Shores, Ala., and the capper to this year’s festival didn’t disappoint. The Lumineers and Delta Spirit both set the tone for Sunday by delivering high-energy early sets to sweaty crowds, and Mavis Staples brought fans to church with her soulful vocals. She briefly lost the crowd when she mistakenly referred to the town as “Roll Tide, Alabama,” but all was forgiven when she broke into a stirring rendition of “The Weight” and paid tribute to the recently departed Levon Helm. The Flaming Lips put on a tribute of their own as the sun set, performing Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon with some help from Phantogram, releasing balloons filled with money during “Money” and delivering all the pomp and circumstance Lips fans have come to expect.

While we tend to our sunburns and shake the sand out of our laptops, check out Mark C. Austin’s photos and relive all the action below.
