Between her standout album Tramp, a seemingly constant touring schedule and an ever-growing list of all-star collaborators, Sharon Van Etten has had a whirlwind of a year.

Van Etten seems to make every performance particularly endearing with her friendly, conversational banter between songs and her willingness to share parts of her life. For her show in Chicago, Ill., Van Etten opened up to her fans in a different way by allowing Paste photographer Josh Darr to follow her as she prepped for her performance at Lincoln Hall.
