Having just finished a tour of Australia and Japan, Dirty Projectors flew in to Los Angeles to play the Troubadour in West Hollywood on Tuesday, February 5. The venue, with a capacity of about 400, provided an intimate setting for the band; a rarity with the success they have achieved with recent releases, particularly last year’s Swing Lo Magellan. The set balanced much of their last album with highlights from records past. The band seemed loose and happy, confident in their ability to execute their intricate compositions and enjoying the audience’s willingness to sing along to the harmonies.

Opening the set was Nick Kroll, best known as Ruxin from The League, providing 40 minutes of standup that could have been a headlining set in its own right. Sadly, though in attendance, his television brother-in-law Rafi (Jason Mantzoukas) did not join him on stage.
