Brooklyn’s The National Reserve just cut a new EP, Trouble In Mind with producer Joel Hamilton (Blackroc, Matisyahu). The band premiered the EP live at the Knitting Factory last week. Paste caught this brief interview with front man Sean Walsh after the set. Paste: How would you describe the new album? Walsh: This time around was more of a band effort. To me, it feels like more of an organic experience than the other records. It sounds like me having a great time with my friends. It’s a bit bluesy, it has some of the country vibe from our live... read more
Another Day in the Life: Erykah Badu
Three years ago, Paste published the first “Day in the Life” story featuring Delta Spirit. It was essentially a photo journal of what it’s like to be with the artist or band for the day. Photos taken during load-in, sound check, backstage, during the concert and sometimes a quick photo shoot made the cut. The photographer, Doug Seymour, soon found himself taking more behind-the-scenes photos and needed somewhere to host these images: a series was born. In July of 2011, Paste published A Day in the Life of Erykah Badu. It quickly became one of the most popular photo features... read more

ICYMI: SXSW Photo Recap
For a photographer, SXSW is somewhere between a dream gig and the Bataan Death March. On one hand, every actor and band you’ve ever heard of is conducting some sort of intimate, amazing showcase. On the other hand, they’re all doing it at the exact same time, pretty much 24 hours a day. For much of my time in Austin I was paired with a writer, newly minted TV personality Ryan Bort, and we’d race from showcase to showcase essentially hand-picking what to feature. Sounds simple, right? Well, when more than two thousand artists are performing in just under a... read more
