Over the past few years, veteran guitarist David Kilgour has been making some of the best music he's ever made throughout his three decades as a professional musician. In 2009, he released Mister Pop with his longtime influential rock group The Clean. Two years later, the New Zealander now arrives with his seventh solo record Left by Soft.
Left by Soft, made with his other longtime band The Heavy Eights, was recorded in an old lodge surrounded in the Catlins--two hours south of his home Dunedin, New Zealand. “To me, it sounds like the band on a good night, warts and all,” says Kilgour. “It’s probably the first real “band” LP I’ve made since Frozen Orange or the David Kilgour and the Heavy 8’s LP from the mid ’90s.”
Left By Soft, which will be out in stores on April 26 via Merge Records, can be streamed up until the release date on Paste's website. Click the album artwork to hear the group's latest effort.
