Here We Go Magic are well practiced in the art of music progression. Founder Luke Temple initially founded the band as a solo project, but fleshed out his sounds between his self-titled debut LP and last year's understated follow-up "Pigeons". The difference between the two records is one particularly marked by the group's evolution as Temple turned the outfit into a more collaborative effort. Looking back to our review of last year's record, our description of it as "Luke Temple's atmospheric folk takes flight" still rings true upon revisiting the album.
As the band looks forward to writing some new tracks sometime this year, Here We Go Magic's will be releasing six more Pigeons-era songs that were not included on their sophomore effort. But to say the songs on The January EP weren't good enough to make the cut would be misleading. Rather, Luke Temple and company recorded a surplus of compelling tracks last time around.
The January EP, which will be out in stores on May 10 via Secretly Canadian, can be streamed up until the release date on Paste's website. Click the album artwork to hear the group's latest effort.
