She’s been making music for over 60 years, but don’t for a second think Mavis Staples is ready for retirement. In February she snagged the first Grammy Award of her career for her Jeff Tweedy-produced album You Are Not Alone, which was one of our favorites of 2010. Paste caught up with the gospel legend backstage at Bonnaroo to talk about collaborating with Tweedy, The Staple Singers’ mainstream success and what it was like to finally win that Grammy after all these years.
