Nikki Lane’s humble upbringing in South Carolina shines through on her Walk of Shame full length. Though she left life in the South behind in favor of the big city vibe, her roots remain present. Her lyrics come to life with the Southern sass that remains in her voice as she sings over slide guitars and a swinging percussion.
The album, which is set for release on Sept. 27, is full of songs about love and lust, heartbreak, longing for the right man and the occasional one-night stand. Her honesty is what allows her to fit right into a classic country setting – she’s far from pop-country princess, Taylor Swift, and more Loretta Lynn.
Lane’s Walk of Shame is about her journey to get out of something she never wanted. “Your expectations are a little bit limited,” she said in a press release about growing up in a small town, “People expect you to go to a four-year college, get married and follow that Southern way of life. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do but I knew it wasn’t being offered to me”
