Album Stream: Loney Dear - Hall Music
Hall Music is Emil Svanangen’s sixth LP as Loney Dear and finds the Swedish singer-songwriter exploring vast sonic landscapes that make his older strictly acoustic-vocal music seem inconsequential in comparison. Hall Music’s airy folk pop brings in a wide range of instrumentation and sonic experimentation, all filtered through a production that is never in your face about its sound.
Whereas Loney Dear’s songs used to feel like intensely personal self-potraits, Svanangen’s songs on Hall Music paint much more universal pictures of quiet morning fogs and calm pastoral scenes in your mind. Standout track, “My Heart”, sees the instrumentation and Svanangen’s Ben Bridwell-esque vocals swimming in seas of reverb, but not in a way that is distracting or messy. Instead, the extravagant arrangements which include synths, strings, organs, and various percussion give these songs a titular importance in his catalogue.
