Wild Child is the newest entry in guy-girl folk duos, or at least that’s how they started. Although the band is a full on six-piece, at heart, it’s still all about the singer-songwriting duo of Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins. Judging by the title of the album alone, it’s not hard to make a guess about what kind of music the duo writes together. These simple love songs are born of sincere emotions and experiences, all expressed through the complimentary voices of Wilson and Beggins.
Wilson and Beggins began writing love songs together on the ukulele a few years back and some of that still makes it through in Pillow Talk, their debut album on Major Nation. The instrumentation of these songs will often include ukulele, bells, and hand claps, giving Pillow Talk a playful and youthful tone unlike the somber moods of other folk duos like The Civil Wars or The Swell Season. But ultimately, the success of a duo is all about synergy. Though Wild Child is a brand new project, they’ve got all the chemistry needed to make their folk tunes more than just ‘pillow talk’ and bring them to a wider audience.
