Boston-based indie-pop group You Can Be A Wesley has been making upbeat indie-pop music since they all met in their Boston University dorm. Nightosphere, their latest release, is no exception to their upbeat sound. Singer Saara Untracht-Oakner’s cheerful vocals on “Talking Science” brings a youthful exuberance that’s paired with a surfer-grunge beat that resonates throughout the album, at times resembling Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino.
You Can Be A Wesley’s unique sound is driven by their soothingly grunge vocals and lyrics, but it by no means represents their entire sound. Their collaborative dynamic originates from all of them living together, allowing the group to hone in on a unified sound that gives their verses, choruses and ambiance a life of their own.
After self-releasing their debut album, Heard Like Us, You Can Be a Wesley raised the money through the crowd-funding site Kickstarter in order to record their album at recording studio 1867 with engineer Chris McLaughlin. You Can Be A Wesley’s upcoming EP, Nightosphere is set to be released on Nov. 1, but a full album stream is available below.
