Song Premiere: John K. Samson - "When I Write My Master's Thesis"

December 12, 2011  |  10:00am

Canadian rockers The Weakerthans haven’t released a new album since 2007, but frontman John K. Samson is set to release his first solo record this upcoming January. Provincial contains re-recorded tracks from two previous EPs, but a fresh batch that explores landmarks from Samson’s life in Manitoba.

On one of the tracks, “When I Write My Master’s Thesis,” Samson’s vocals are reminiscent of Ben Gibbard’s on one of Death Cab’s more upbeat pop-rock songs and the melody is just as catchy. Exciting guitars are coupled with an exceedingly catchy chorus.

Samson has also announced a string of U.S. dates for next spring and will announce more dates soon.
