The Chieftains are celebrating their 50th year as a group with the upcoming album Voice of Ages. The idea behind the album wasn’t to celebrate the past, but instead look to the future. So with the help of producer T Bone Burnett, the band collaborated with newcomers like Bon Iver, The Decemberists, Punch Brothers and Carolina Chocolate Drops.
“There seems to be a great interest in the fact that we’ve gone down this road,” Chieftains’ leader Paddy Moloney said in a press release. “It’s sort of like when we joined up with people of our own generation — Sting, Van Morrison, and the Rolling Stones — who have been on our albums in the past. But this time, its newer groups. We met up and we had a great time.”
To celebrate the album’s Feb. 21 release date, we’ve got an exclusive premiere of “Pretty Little Girl,” a collaboration with Carolina Chocolate Drops. The track is a stomping dance number that’s undeniably a product of musicians who have been crafting good folk music for quite some time.
