Allo Darlin’ is many things, all of which are reminiscent of other bands: a sped-up Hem, a female-led Lucksmiths and a more cheerful Cranberries. Elizabeth Morris’ particular brand of vocal pleasantry is just right for the melodic content; her voice is strong, but not so strong that it overpowers the dainty notes it lilts over.
Their sophomore album—Europe, the London-based band’s latest release on Slumberland Records—does a great job of never getting too in-your-face, which is almost the point of indie pop. Tracks like “Northern Lights” and “Wonderland” are perfect for an impromptu bedroom dance party, while “Tallulah” is just right for easing into the day.
While Europe won’t be available in stores until May 1, you can stream the record in the streaming player below.
