Album Stream: Trampled by Turtles - Stars and Satellites

April 3, 2012  |  9:45am

Minnesota bluegrass quintet Trampled by Turtles is known for their energy on the stage, and in the past they’ve capitalized on that reputation by treating their recording process like a live performance. For their upcoming release Stars and Satellites, however, the band stepped out of their comfort zone and challenged themselves in the studio.

Dave Simonett, Erik Berry, Dave Carroll, Tim Saxhaug and Ryan Young are five musicians who have never stuck to their genre’s boundaries. Trampled by Turtles began as an acoustic side project from the members’ various punk rock endeavors in their hometown of Duluth, Minnesota, but has now evolved into the main event, headlining sold-out shows across the country and earning spots at several national music festivals. While Stars and Satellites remains true to the fast-paced, dynamic tempo and remarkable four-part harmonies on which the group has built their reputation, their record focuses on the bond its members have built since they’ve played together.

“You know how sometimes they say ‘less is more,’ said Erik Berry, “that’s what Stars and Satellites is all about.”

While Stars and Satellites won’t be released until April 10 (out via Thirty Tigers/RED), you can stream the album in its entirety in the player below.
