The Band drummer/mandolinist/vocalist Levon Helm passed away this afternoon, ending a long fight with throat cancer. In honor of Helm, we’ve combed through the video archives of Wolfgang’s Vault, selecting some of Levon Helm’s finest performances from three shows at different points of his career—The Band at the Winterland in San Francisco on Nov. 1976 (The Last Waltz), The Band at the San Francisco Civic Auditorium in Dec. 1983 and The Levon Helm Band at the 2008 Newport Folk Festival.
