Album Stream: Easter Island - Frightened
Easter Island’s name isn’t coincidental or haphazardly chosen: their music is reminiscent of a dream state, an alternate reality, a place that isn’t real. Well, we all know that Easter Island is a very real place, about 2300 miles west of Chile, but most people won’t make it out there in their lifetimes. It’s a place that remains in people’s minds, a retreat for when real life gets to be too harsh. A lot like Frightened, the band Easter Island’s latest LP, which comes out on July 3.
Frightened follows 2011’s Better Things EP and shows what the band—started by brothers Ethan and Asher Payne in 2010—can do with 11 songs: play the very dreamiest of pop without veering into sluggish territory.
Easter Island calls Athens, Ga., its home, continuing a tradition of innovative, original bands being cultivated in the creative hub that served as a launchpad for bands ranging from R.E.M. and Reptar.
