Song Premiere: Ryan Miller - "Big Machine"

The first trailer for the romantic time-travel comedy Safety Not Guaranteed had just been posted when we spoke with Guster’s Ryan Miller a couple months ago. Now, the frontman and songwriter discussed his first major foray into composing music for films and now, the result of his work is finally hitting theaters and reaching the public.

Starring Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass, Jake Johnson and Karan Soni, directed by Colin Trevorrow and written by Derek Connolly, the SXSW Film Festival Award-winning Safety Not Guaranteed opens in New York, Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle on June 8. According to a press release, additional cities and release dates will be added in the coming weeks.

In addition, the Safety Not Guaranteed’s soundtrack drops digitally on June 5 via ABKCO Records. While Miller composed almost all of the music for the film including the main song, “Big Machine,” Duplass (an accomplished musician in his own right) actually sings the piano ballad during the movie. This version, however, features Miller’s vocals and is only available as a bonus track on the iTunes digital download.
