Video Premiere: Bahamas - Sunday Dinner

It’s rare to see a musician out of context — not in concert-mode or in a staged music video. Afie Jurvanen, known as Bahamas, dedicates his time his musical life on Sundays to visit his family in northern Ontario. In February, a camera crew captured the humble experience.

What was planned to be an interview with Jurvanen about his record, Barchords, ended up being an inside look at what Sundays are actually like for the musician. This short film highlights the experience of cooking and spending time with family, complemented with the Finnish language as dialogue (his mother was Miss Finland in 1973).

“I didn’t grow up in a particularly musical family, but my mother was and still is constantly creating,” Jurvanen recalls. “I think being around her curiosity and seemingly endless energy is definitely contagious and inspiring. I hope I can remain as interested and excited about discovery and exploration through music as she is with everything else.”

Watch the video premiere of the Light Echo Productions short film, Sunday Dinner, directed and edited by Scott Kaija & Ryan Gassi.
