Video Premiere: LP - "In The Pines"

Armed with just a ukulele, LP strums out a Delta blues classic, Leadbelly’s “In The Pines.” Recorded in what appears to be an abandoned loft in Los Angeles, LP’s voice echoes off the empty walls and creates a powerful and sometimes eerie cadence. She also displays impressive whistling chops that would make Andrew Bird take notice. Despite the songs blues-textured chord progressions, LP makes it seem like the song was destined for the ukulele.

LP put out her major label debut EP, Into the Wild: Live at Eastwest Studios, earlier this year. Although her vocal talents are showcased in this video, LP is also well-known for her writing credits with several pop artists, including Rihanna and Christina Aguilera.
