Song Premiere: Ben Sollee - "Unfinished"
Dynamic Kentucky-born cellist and songwriter Ben Sollee will be releasing a new full-length album, Half-Made Man, on Sept. 25. The record, Sollee’s fourth studio album, will be released on his own label, Tin Ear Records.
“Half-Made Man is a collection of self-portraits that were performed, for the most part, live to tape—there was much less scrutinizing for perfection,” Sollee said about his new album. “We steered our ears towards getting the right energy for each song.”
The “we” that Sollee refers to includes an impressive cast of musicians—such as My Morning Jacket guitarist Carl Broemel and STS9 bassist Alana Rocklin—that he brought into the Louisville, Ky., studio where he recorded and self-produced the album.
“I dug deep into myself and asked the musicians to go there with me,” he comments. “It won’t be easy to place this album in one category, but I, and my generation, are measured by a little bit of everything these days.”
