Song Premiere: Preservation Hall Jazz Band - "C.C. Rider"

Preservation Hall Jazz Band has made a career of honoring and preserving the sounds of New Orleans jazz. They keep true to that tradition in an unearthed track from 1981 titled “C.C. Rider.”

“C.C. Rider” is featured on 50th Anniversary Collection, the upcoming box set celebrating the band and New Orleans’ Preservation Hall, after which the band is named.

From the very first chord on the piano the listener is transported back to the The French Quarter in New Orleans. The angst and pain of the singer is felt not only in the delivery of the lyrics, but with every wail of the trumpet and cymbal hit. “C.C Rider” is the perfect representation of what to expect from the upcoming box set. 50th Anniversary Collection will be available on Sept. 25. The box set has recordings of the band starting from its early inception in 1961 leading up to present day.

Also available Sept. 25 will be St. Peter & 57th Street by Preservation Hall Jazz Band, a record celebrating Carnegie Hall’s 50th anniversary. The record has Preservation Hall Jazz Band and a plethora of guest stars like My Morning Jacket, Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArdDs, GIVERS, Ed Helms, Steve Earle, Mos Def and Blind Boys of Alabama.

Listen to “C.C. Rider” below and check out Preservation Hall Jazz Band tour dates and the track listing from the 50th Anniversary Collection box set.
