Song Premiere: Balmorhea - "Days"

Hailing from Austin, Texas, six-piece instrumental group Balmorhea (pronounced Bal-more-ay), has been churning out post-rock in the vein of Explosions in the Sky since 2006. The band set to embark on a fall North American tour in support of their forthcoming album, Stranger, set to be released in the U.S. on Oct. 2.

Sharing both the name of a tiny West Texas town of 500 people in addition to the motifs the American Southwest embodies, Balmorhea’s early work drew from folklore, proclamations of mountainous settings and intimate studies on solitude, nature and night. As the band grew in size over the years, several layers were added to create a more complex representation of ideas, textures and sounds that culminates in a sound that is hard to pin to any specific genre.

In keeping with their description, Balmorhea’s latest single “Days” is filled with numerous intricacies featured in the forms of percussion, guitars and strings, “Days” proves to be a sprawling creation that is an indulgence for the careful listener.
