Valentine’s Day can be somewhat polarizing, so we at Paste have put together a Valentine’s Day playlist suitable for the lovestruck, the bitter and those languishing somewhere in between.
For those seeking something sweet, the mix begins with an exclusive live acoustic recording of “Nothing But Trouble” from husband and wife Drew and Ellie Holcomb, who recently released a free seven-song Collection EP in anticipation of forthcoming album Good Light.
“Anytime you make the decision to give love a fighting chance,” says Drew Holcomb, “you know you are in trouble, but the best kind of trouble.”
The rest of the first half of this compilation continues with love songs from Stars, Cary Brothers, Meiko, Super Human Happiness, k.s.Rhoads and Shannon Whitworth.
But, of course, we can’t forget the anti-love anthems that make any heartache more bearable. Those with lackluster valentines may connect with songs like Dog Bite’s “You’re Not That Great,” Lightning Love’s “Deadbeat” or “Mr. Wrong” by Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics. Too many suitors this Valentine’s Day? Take a leaf from the book of Those Darlins and ask your beau to “Be Your Bro.” If you’re mulling over the demise of a relationship, you may find solace in Delta Saints’ “Jezebel,” Samantha Crain’s “Never Going Back” or “Where Did You Go?” by Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside, whose forthcoming album is actually set for release next week.
