New Orleans is a town full of talented musicians and legendary restauranteurs, but Kermit Ruffins is a man who has managed to make a name for himself in a multitude of ways. If you haven’t been to his restaurant Kermit’s Treme Speakeasy or watched him in the HBO series Treme, playing himself, you have probably seen him onstage. Whether he takes the stage solo or with Rebirth Brass Band, a group Ruffins founded while still in high school, he never fails to get the party started.
Fitting with his infectious live performances, Ruffins is set to release a new album We Partyin’ Traditional Style! in May. If the first track is any indicator, fans won’t be disappointed. It features exactly the traditional yet decidedly fresh jazz sounds that have allowed Ruffins to stay a relevant part of the New Orleans music scene for years.
Listen to “Treme Second Line” in the player below. We Partyin’ Traditional Style! is set for release on May 28 via Basin Records.
