With nine full-length albums and 11 EPs under his belt, singer-songwriter and artist Joseph Arthur has announced a new release scheduled for June.
This forthcoming album, The Ballad of Boogie Christ, is a cohesive narrative following one character, a concept that fits perfectly with Arthur’s seemingly natural knack for storytelling.
“Boogie Christ is unlike anything I’ve ever done before,” Arthur said in a recent press release. “It’s a big production with horns and soul singers; a psychedelic soul record about redemption and what happens after you find it and lose it.”
The record was recorded in New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and even in Arthur’s Brooklyn studio, employing a rich cast of friends to collaborate on different tracks.
“It all came from words and poems like seeds that bloomed into songs which themselves fathered some of the richest music I’ve made in 17 years of putting together records,” said Arthur of the album.

Fans after the autographed vinyl might also be interested in Arthur’s PledgeMusic campaign: Arthur is clearing out his personal vault, auctioning handpainted guitars, murals, handwritten lyric sheets and even the touring van that was seized and auctioned by New York State. The money raised from these and a multitude of other collectibles will go towards Arthur’s studio costs from The Ballad of Boogie Christ, which is set for release on June 11 via Lonely Astronauts Records.
