David Berkeley has been sharing his insightful acoustic songwriting with the world for over a decade now. He also shared his gift for prose when he released 140 Goats and a Guitar, a memoir containing 13 stories that served as a companion to his album Some Kind of Cure.
Berkeley says that since writing his memoir he has been increasingly interested in linking songs with stories, so when author Harlan Coban approached Berkeley about writing a song based on his latest book, Shelter, Berkeley jumped at the opportunity. Shelter focuses on loss and the search for stability and these themes guided Berkeley as he wrote his song, also entitled “Shelter”.
“I pulled out specific lines and images and tried to match the mood of the story in my melody,”. said Berkeley.
“Shelter” will be featured on David Berkeley’s forthcoming album The Fire in My Head, which is set for release on July 9, but you can listen to “Shelter” now in the player below.
