Mason Jar Music, the innovative Brooklyn-based collective, has built a name for itself over the last three years as a company that pushes the boundaries of modern technology while maintaining classic “analog principles”. Much of Mason Jar’s work happens in their converted apartment’s basement studio and last Memorial Day, when a recording session fell through, the crew threw together a last minute marathon collaboration with artists from the indie-folk community. The result was a six track EP, entitled Decoration Day, dedicated to some of the greatest American folk songs of the last two centuries.
This May marked the second annual Memorial Day session at Mason Jar Music studios. Decoration Day, Volume 2 pays tribute to 1960’s era soul and features the talented Josh Garrels, Nick Hakim, Emily Elbert, Flearoy, and Gabriel Garzón-Montano. The album was recorded live over a three-day period and pairs the aforementioned artists with the Mason Jar Music house band and a four-piece horn section. Decoration Day, Volume 2 is set for release on July 3, but you can check out an exclusive premier of this soulful rendition of The Beatles’ “Don’t Let Me Down” in the player below. The track features Nick Hakim, Emily Elbert, and Gabriel Garzón-Montano.
