Video Premiere: Cock & Swan - "Melt Down"

August 23, 2013  |  12:15pm

“Headphone sessions, late-night travels, intimate encounters, contemplative rides on public transportation.” These are the things Seattle’s Hush Hush Records claims to specialize in, and if you’ve ever listened to label founder Alex Ruder’s renowned overnight DJ sets on KEXP, you’ll know exactly what type of darkly atmospheric beats, vibes and sonic dreamscapes to expect to find on one of the label’s releases.

On September 10, though, Hush Hush will release Secret Angles, the label’s most pop-oriented album to date and third LP from Seattle duo Cock & Swan. Featuring the haunting vocals of Ola Hungerford and the intricate multi-instrumentalism of Johnny Goss—who has recorded and engineered tracks for La Luz upstart all-girl garage/surf group La Luz—Cock & Swan resemble a drugged-down, more experimental Phantogram, somehow creating an eerie harmony out of unconventional and often discordant instrumental layering. Secret Angles might be catchy and concise compared to some of the more ambient artists on Hush Hush’s roster, but that doesn’t mean the album wouldn’t serve as the perfect complement to any 3 a.m. subway ride or stroll through the city.

Secret Angels’ lead single, “Animal Totem,” has already premiered, and now we have the the album’s first music video, a colorful series of aqueous visualization to accompany the track “Melt Down.” Take a look below, and visit Hush Hush’s website and Cock & Swan’s website for more info.
