Singer-songwriter Vienna Teng is set to release her first studio album in four years on Sept. 24, celebrating her new home in Detroit (after completing a degree in sustainability at The University of Michigan) with cover art that’s based on a map of the city.
“I’m struck by how many stories are embedded in those colors,” said Teng in a recent statement. “It’s easy to see Detroit’s familiar tragedy: swaths of orange sounding the alarm of collapse, dysfunction, injustice, abandonment. There are also glimmers of resurgence and stubborn survival: vibrant purple in the city center, plus other proud neighborhoods dotting the city’s 139 square miles. And there are the pregnant questions, stories yet unwritten: what’s possible in a city that looks like this? What do we dare to imagine for its future?”
Aims was produced by Cason Cooley (Katie Herzig, William Fitzsimmons), and will be release on Sept. 24. Stream the album in its entirety in the player below.
