New Orleans’ Madd Wikkid, or Earl Scioneaux, has made a name for himself not only as a performer, but a producer; he’s worked with everyone from Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Pretty Lights to Erykah Badu. This week, fans of Madd Wikkid’s work can get their hands on even more music from the artist as he gets set to release his latest project, Don’t Tell Nobody.
“More than anything, I just wanted this record to be fun,” said Scioneaux. “I decided to take a wide variety of New Orleans music that I enjoy — stuff that never was meant to go together — and make some sort of musical collages from them.”
Don’t Tell Nobody samples local artists, many of whom have followings wide beyond Louisiana including Dr. John, The Meters and Lil’ Wayne.
“There’s a long history of great music from New Orleans, and the city is still chock full of amazing talent,” said Scioneaux. “The thing is, there’s so much great New Orleans music, it’s easy to forget how diverse that musical pool actually is. I wanted to give a glimpse of that by juxtaposing unlikely things — Mystikal with 1950s R&B, or Ernie K-Doe with bounce rap.”
