Rootsy trio The Devil Makes Three is a band built on the strength of their extensive touring history, and with forthcoming album I’m A Stranger Here, it seems they’ve really aimed to capture life as a traveling band.
“We had a lot of time to think about this record and what we wanted it to be,” said vocalist and guitarist Pete Bernhard. “We didn’t rush and we had a great group of people around us.”
I’m A Stranger Here will be their debut on New West Records, and was produced by Buddy Miller.
“Having Buddy Miller as producer really took a lot of pressure off of all of us and allowed us to have fun and relax,” Bernhard said. “Up until this album, we have always self produced and this was the first time we had another cook in the kitchen.”
The recording process itself was unique in that it catered to the band’s live chemistry.
“It was done almost all live tracking in one room, which was great for us as we are largely a live band who love to tour,” says Bernhard. “I think I worked harder on the lyrics and basic song structures than on any other record we have ever released.”
