We’ve certainly witnessed the kind of live performance bluegrass masters Yonder Mountain String Band can deliver, and if their wildly successful Harvest Festival and continuously well-attended tour dates can say anything, what the band brings to the stage has hooked many fans, too.
In celebration of their upcoming fall tour, YMSB has announced the forthcoming release of YMSB EP ‘13, a four-track EP that includes one track written by each band member. The release was self-produced by the band, and will be released physically on Oct. 8 and digitally on Oct. 15 via the band’s own Frog Pad Records.
“These days it’s about flow, for me,” said bassist and vocalist Ben Kaufmann in a recent press release. “What are the things I can do to keep creativity flowing, and how can Yonder continue to create and produce material with ease? Yonder spends so much time on tour, performing live music, and we’re at our best when we’re playing live. What better time, then, to record? By integrating studio recording with touring I feel we give ourselves every opportunity to capture Yonder Mountain at our best. The new EP captures the true sound of Yonder better than any of our previous releases, in my opinion.”
Kaufmann’s contribution to the EP, “Straight Line,” was written years ago and integrated into the band’s live performances in 2010. Finally, the track has gotten a proper studio recording.
