Song Premiere: Highasakite - "Son of a bitch"
Genre-defying Norwegian group Highasakite first caught our attention at last year’s Oya Festival. With an impressive show and an aesthetic that combines elements of dream-pop, Norwegian folk, and chill wave, Highasakite is an upbeat band that manages to maintain its artistic depth. Highasakite’s forthcoming international debut, In and out of weeks, is due out on Mar. 5 via Propeller Recordings. Song Premiere: Feeding People - "Big Mother"
Feeding People is a project led by 19-year-old Jessie Jones, a vocalist who has drawn inspiration from greats like Grace Slick and Janice Joplin. The band gained notoriety with its unique sound fairly quickly, and after playing only a few shows the talented teenagers were invited to play electronic club Low End Theory, sharing a stage with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. Video Premiere: Overmountain Men - "Smoke and Mirrors"
You may not have heard Overmountain Men’s name, but you’re probably already familiar with the music of a few of the band’s members. Bob Crawford, the bass player for The Avett Brothers, is on vocals and bass with Charlotte singer-songwriter David Childers on guitar and vocals as well. Rounding out the foursome are percussionist Robert Childers and guitar, banjo, and mandolin player Randy Saxon. Ambrosia Parsley, known to many fans as Shivaree, has taken on her own individual identity in her musical career with her newest EP I Miss You. I Do. The EP contains five songs and serves as somewhat of a preview for her forthcoming album Weeping Cherry. I Miss You. Nervous Nellie’s music has never formally reached the United States, but that all finally changes with the upcoming release of the band’s most recent effort, Gloves EP. The title track from the album is a bouncy tune that the guys say was inspired by aspects of a Tom Petty song. “The idea for the song came after hearing an old Tom Petty drum pattern on an oldies station when out driving one day,” said Henrik Jonzon, the groups guitar player and lead vocalist. “After building the beat at the breakfast table the following morning the rest just came naturally.” You... read more

Video Premiere: Erin McKeown - "Proof"
Singer-songwriter Erin McKeown is back with her seventh studio album Manifestra, and to celebrate the album’s release today she has also released the official video for her song “Proof.” The video is a visual anomale featuring a fresh-faced McKeown amid a stark background and covered in paint. As McKeown sings the lyrics to the track, the paint appears to be moving backwards, dripping up and off of McKeown. It’s a visual representation of the the stain of a relationship being lifted off of McKeown’s shoulders. For the second year in a row, Paste teamed up with Sennheiser at the Newport Folk Festival to capture intimate recordings of some of our favorite artists. Album Stream: Hilly Eye - Reasons to Live
Hilly Eye is the collaboration of guitarist and vocalist Amy Klein and drummer and vocalist Catherine Tung. The two have been working together since 2009, and began as an effort between Klein (formerly of Titus Andronicus) and Tung to create something noisey and primitive while maintaining elements of psychedelia. Hilly Eye’s forthcoming album Reasons to Live embodies exactly that, from the droning guitars to the aggressive vocals. It’s an effort that makes use of soft sounds as well as violent, loud ones. Reigning from Orlando, Fla., the five-piece(often six-piece) band Day Joy has released the video for the single “Go To Sleep, Mess,” which shares the title with the band’s debut LP out Feb. 12. Listed as one of our Top Florida Bands You Should Listen To Now, the band incorporates banjos and ukuleles with synthesizers and steady percussion to create their somewhat-psychedelic sound.
