Chicago cellist Alison Chesley has recorded with artists like Bob Mould, Disturbed, Anthrax and Broken Social Scene, so it’s no surprise that she’s tackled a Minutemen classic like “A Political Song For Michael Jackson to Sing” under her moniker Helen Money.
Illustrator Nelson Chan has turned the track into a freaky video tribute to MJ, saying on his YouTube page, “I am a very big Fan of Michael Jackson, and am quite angry on the fact that We only started to pay attention to him only after his passing. so here is my tribute to him in a Halloween spirit. ‘let the fouls choke on their own gold!’ R.I.P. MJ.”
Minutemen frontman Mike Watt added his own lower-case praise, writing “very creative of both of them! my thanks their way.” Here he is singing the original in 1984:

Hey - thanks for posting this.
I did this cover out of respect of D. Boon, Mike and George. They had a huge influence on me growing up listening to music in LA in the 80s. Nelson has a very different take but that's what's so interesting.
btw D Boon was the frontman but Mike wrote the lyrics.
Great to see the two videos back to back. Mike Watt emailed link to video out to his list with the note:"nelson chan just made a video for helen money's cello-centric cover of my "political song for michael jackson to sing" I wrote so very long ago...very creative of both of them! my thanks their way." Sooo cool! We love you Watt!
Alison is an awesome player & writer! Check out her two CDs. Great songs, big sound, none of that stereotypical cello playing one would expect.
