It’s lonely in the modern world. At least, that’s the philosophy behind Unhappy Hipsters, a tumblr blog capturing the melancholy of urban design. The blog was started by two women, a writer and a graphic designer, who wish to remain anonymous.

“We started the blog because we IM all day together anyway (it’s how we survive) and it was just another way to make each other laugh,” the authors wrote via email. “Basically, a place to say, ‘you picked the concrete floors and the gravel yard; at least pretend you like it.’ We pick all the photos and write all the captions, nothing is reader generated (although we’ve gotten plenty of submissions).”

As for whether the two friends are actually unhappy hipsters: “Pretty sure the fact that we’re happy people precludes us from any level of hipsterdom.”
