If Lil Jon popularized the hip-hop ad-lib, Young Jeezy elevated it to an art form. For the uninitiated, an ad-lib is something that a rapper shouts during a verse to add flavor to their songs. Remember that no-longer-funny Dave Chapelle skit where he made fun of Lil Jon’s oft-hollered WHATs and OKAYs? Those were ad-libs that Chapelle was mocking.
Now that we’re all caught up—trap-rapper Young Jeezy (whoops, just Jeezy) is still the world’s premiere slinger of ad-libs, even if the quality of his music has done a pretty steep nosedive in the past two years. If you’ve heard one Jeezy song, you’ve probably heard almost all of his ad-libs: “jyeah,” “deeeyum,” “ayyy,” “ha haaa,” “yeeeaaahhh” and, of course, “thaaat’s riiiiight.” At this point, it’s pretty much safe to say that the ad-libs are the best part of his music.
Enter graphic designer Jermaine Davis, who took it upon himself to design a series of awesome infographic-style posters immortalizing Jeezy’s ad-libs. And if you prefer your coke rap ad-libs N.Y.-style over Dirty South-style, he’s got you covered with a poster of Clipse’s battle cry: “EGHCK.” Now, let’s hope that Davis starts selling prints of them, because these babies would make a quite a handsome addition to your home or office décor. Feast your eyes:

That is pretty funny. Love the layout. The type. The message.
Thanks for sharing this!
I love the simplicity of the white text on a black background. The block letters and lack of graphics put the focus of these posters on the actual text, which is a brilliant move on the part of the designer. Someone who wants a memorial of Jeezy’s ad libs will not be distracted or annoyed by additional graphics that take away from the words. Plus, as you point out, these poster printing designs would look great nearly anywhere: an office wall, a bedroom, a hallway, a locker, etc.
